Many auto enthusiasts have a list of experiences they want to have at least once. If you’re a gearhead with a bucket list, consider these accessible experiences that every car lover should do!
Road Trip Route 66
It may seem like a cliché, but every automotive enthusiast should, at some point in their lives, drive down America’s most famous road, Route 66. The iconic road is filled with history and an excellent chance for drivers to see so much of the US they would never see otherwise.
Route 66 is full of fun roadside attractions and oddities that are worth seeing in person:
- Route 66 Association Hall of Fame & Museum (Pontiac, IL)
- The Gateway Arch (St. Louis, MO)
- Cadillac Ranch (Amarillo, TX)
- The Blue Whale (Catoosa, OK)
- The Gemini Giant (Wilmington, IL)
The best experience would be taking Route 66 from its start in downtown Chicago to finish at the Santa Monica Pier in California. If you don’t have time, traveling a few states via the iconic road is still well worth the trip.
Off-Road in the Grand Canyon
While driving through Route 66, consider taking a short detour to witness one of the wonders of the world, the Grand Canyon. Instead of just taking a few pictures, experience the Grand Canyon behind the wheel of a 4×4 and go off-roading!
The Grand Canyon is filled with trails for people to off-road in 4×4 trucks and Jeeps, and it is an incredible bucket list experience every gearhead should do at least once. If you want to make the experience special, consider off-roading in a classic vehicle!
Take a Performance Driving Class
You may think you know how to drive like a professional, but you should put your skills to the test. Every car lover should take the time to attend a high-performance driving school at least once in their life.
There are plenty of performance driving classes for all kinds of driving—whether you want to learn how to hit the apex in a high-speed corner on a race track or drift through muddy trails in a rally car. Many of these schools are affordable and have instructors with professional racing experience. You’ll keep your new driving skills with you for the rest of your life!
Drive a High-Powered Exotic
After you’ve taken a high-performance driving class, put those skills to the test behind the wheel of a high-powered exotic car. Every auto enthusiast should experience the feeling of getting behind a world-class car like a Ferrari, Lamborghini, or McLaren at least once.
Exotics are too expensive for many of us, but companies rent these exotic cars to drive for a few hours so we can experience what it’s like to drive a car worth six figures. It may only be for an hour or two, but we’re sure you’ll never forget the experience!
